Today is Day 6 of my writing challenge.
The word ‘challenge’ certainly rings true today.
I can barely see the computer screen because I’m currently writing this from inside a mountain of snotty tissues.
No amount of wool socks, cozy sweaters, mint tea or vegan peanut butter cookies seem to be making me feel better. But, I made a commitment to myself to write, write, write, and I take my commitments very seriously.
It’s a perfect day to talk about imperfection. And that’s exactly what I’m reading on this What You’re Reading Wednesday: Brené Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection.
It’s around 130 pages of Brené’s research on what she calls Wholehearted living. She believes the path to Wholehearted living is marked by Ten Guideposts that are detailed in each chapter of her book. These include cultivating authenticity, self‐compassion, a resilient spirit, gratitude and joy, intuition, creativity, play & rest, calm & stillness, meaningful work, and laughter, song & dance.
Brené explores the power of love, belonging and ‘being enough,’ in tandem with the things that generally hold us back: perfectionism, caring about what others think of us, comparison, the need for certainty, etc.
- Let go of the world’s expectations
- Life is full of unknowns; go with it.
- You are enough right now in all your perfect imperfection
- Do something you love (even if it’s for free sometimes)
- Creativity is essential to our spiritual connection
- Being vulnerable and honest in difficult situations not only liberates us but others, too!
- Find stillness, dance, laugh and be your weird little self.
